A visit from a cousin

A visit from Harvey and Mary Meyers

Harvey and Mary Meyers came to visit us for a few days the last week of April, 2010. We enjoyed their visit very much. We had a family get together on Sunday, April 25, spent a day at Crex Meadows doing some hiking and birding, another day at the Ice Age Trail, and another just driving around the local area looking for eagles and other birds. Harv and Mary are avid birders. They were able to add the Trumpeter Swan and the Short Eared Owl to their life bird list. Below are some photos of their visit.

Here is a photo of, left to right, Diane, me, Mary and Harv Merers, and Connie and Brother Jack Adams. We had a great time with all the children and grand children. There were many stories of days gone by and memories of childhood events.

This is our grand daughters Addy and Becca. It's always a fun day when these two get together to play.

Here is Mary with her birding bag and binoculars taking in the scenery at Crex Meadows wildlife area.

Here is Harv at Crex Meadows. He brought his camera and spotting scope with him. The scope came in handy for viewing the water foul that were often a ways away. We could also identify birds quickly with Harv's iPod Touch application.

Here is a rather old and worn turtle we came across during a hike at Crex Meadows. The area had just been burned off and this turtle was making his way to water.

Here are Mary, Diane and Harv checking out a small butterfly. We had a beautiful day hiking at the Ice Age Train near New Auburn, WI. The only problem was a few ticks that seemed to like our taste. We caught them all before they could become attached to our skin.

Finally, here is a photo of our companion Stanley the Black Lab that "guided" us through the forest on our hike at the Ice Age Trail. I think Stanley thought we were a little too slow for his taste. He would bounce on ahead of us, explore the landscape, and come back to see if we were still coming up the trail. He was indeed a good companion - he is the resident trail dog at the information center.
